An Excuse to Hate.

Journal Entry: Mon May 5, 2008, 8:49 AM
Its something thats come to my attention as of recently, and whatever inkling of hope I had left for the development of humanity is close to gone. People always find the need to hate what's different; whether it be gays, blacks, jews, transexuals, you name it and there's a hate group for it. However, it's become considerably PC to deny any affiliation with those kinds of hate groups. People, as a whole, have become much more understanding...or so I thought. I've been wondering as of lately if many people who carry the pc attitude genuinely believe what they're saying.

I've seen an interesting pattern amongst people and it goes along the lines of "I HATE MEXICANS AND WANT ALL LATINS OUT OF THE GOOD OL' US OF A". Interestingly enough, when you mention the possibility of their being just a tad racist (although I know that racist is a bad term to use being that the latin culture isn't a race, but I dont quite know if "culturist" works...) these same people explode in a hissy fit of a thousand suns.

Do they not realize that holding a prejudice against a group of people for their nationality/culture makes them a prejudiced person? Or is it that it's become a popular prejudice to have, therefore making it okay? See, many people retaliate by saying that it's illegal aliens that they're opposed to - a learned retort many make the second somebody with an ounce of reason quiestions their's. But they don't take into consideration the first words that came out of their mouths in the first place - MEXICANS. Their problem isn't so much with the Irish, Haitian, and Chinese illegal immigrants that are also living in this country, no they specified Mexicans. Despite the fact that I am not of mexican heritage, I take insult to these kinds of comments, because I know that when some backwards asshole makes the comment, they don't mean JUST mexicans. They mean latins in general ;)

And you know, its precisely this kind of disgusting attitude that keeps me within the safety of my latin community. Chances are, I'll never venture out into the open fields of Alabama. Hell, the one time Raz and I stepped into a community that WASN'T latin, we got boo'ed and arrested, all the while the surrounding people calling us Spics and telling us to swim our ways back to cuba. I feel as though many american-born latins, partly ashamed of their hispanic culture in the first place, keep quiet when they hear somebody bashing mexicans as a whole, only to claim later on that they meant the illegal kind the entire time.

Frankly, everybody forgets that they are of immigrant descent themselves. They forget that their ancestors came onto THIS land for the same reason others do as well: because back home, things were shit.

Californians get mad at the fact that there are many mexicans in their state, without realizing that holy shit, California WAS Mexico not too long ago. Many northern Floridians get mad at the fact that half of Latin America resides in South Florida without realizing that holy shit, Florida once belonged to Spain. Hispanics have been residing in the United States of America since the the colonial times - yet NOW its becoming a problem? Please. People need an excuse to hate and unfortunately, the media, our politicians, and our own ignorance is allowing it to happen.
